A short note on sequences, limits, and the quiet precision of getting arbitrarily close.

Getting closer

A sequence converges when its terms eventually stay within any prescribed distance of a single value.

The definition

Định nghĩa 1. A sequence (an)(an) converges to LL if for every ε>0ε>0 there exists NN such that n≥Nn≥N implies ∣an−L∣<ε∣an−L∣<ε.

A familiar example

For an=1/nan=1/n, choose an integer N>1/εN>1/ε. Then n≥Nn≥N gives ∣an∣<ε∣an∣<ε.

Why precision matters

The order of quantifiers is the heart of the definition. We do not pick one accuracy for all purposes: the sequence must answer every challenge.
